How Luggage and Bags Market is Positioned in India?
Liberalized rules in baggage and the presence of multinationals helped the customers in India to access the luggage of good quality. It led to a phase when the domestic companies such as VIP Industries and Safari Industries started competing with the foreign firms such as Samsonite and American Tourister. During this era, major companies adopted aggressive strategies and came up with multiple brands for various consumer groups. Popular travel bag categories included briefcases and wheeled luggage bags. India luggage and bags industry was observed to be in its growth stage where consumers are now seeing luggage as a status enhancer and a lifestyle based product. Improvement in the standard of living and rise in personal disposable income has led consumers to shift from local products to branded luggage thus, augmenting the recent trend of gifting branded luggage bags.
Shift in terms of luggage distribution from traditional stores to modern retail trade channels has been observed; as a result of which, manufactures have started doing heavy advertising expenditure to re-position brands in the Indian luggage industry. Also, soft luggage segment started gradually replacing hard cases in India. Companies have started investing in light-weight, youth-oriented and space-efficient travel bags, casual bags and business bags. Introduction of GST led to growth in organized sector which in the long run would ensure quality & competitiveness in future. Brands have also started opting for an omni channel approach to sustain growth in competitive environment along with focus on youth-oriented products hence, opting for customization. Also, surge in proliferation of products sales through online company portals have given a boost to the organized players sales volume. These players are also trying to tap in the rural segment with affordable pricing products.
